JW CHILDREN GET PRESENTS ALL THROUGH THE YEAR. REALLY?????
by NAVYTOWN inis it really true that jw children get gifts 'all through the year', not just for christmas and birthdays like non- jw kids?
as stingy as most jws are, i find that very hard to believe.
plus the childhood magic of christmas and birthdays is totally absent in jw households.

We used to buy our kids toys pretty much whenever they asked for something. When we went on vacation, we bought tons of souvenirs. Nice stuff, too-not just cheap junk. We took them to Disney World and other exciting places. We tried really hard to make sure they weren't deprived of material things or fun experiences. Their childhoods were still crappy though and they are much happier now that we are out.

New here
by winnie12 inhey i'm new here, i've been reading up so much here and on other sites about tatt and it has really settled a nagging feeling of doubt within me.
truly i have been lied to and have been trapped in this cult.
i've been suffering with depression, anxiety, attempted suicide, hospitalization, anti depressants, loneliness all this while being in supposedly surrounded by "the happiest people" on earth.

Sometimes you have to do what's right for you and not be controlled by other people's possible reactions. I know it's hard, but your primary responsibility is to yourself, not your mother.

Christmas is WRONG!
by thesaint inyou all should be ashamed of your egotistical selves.
how can you leave god's organization to celebrate the work of satan the devil?
it just goes to show you how jehovah's christian witnesses are correct about how persons will leave the truth for their own selfish desires.. first off, christmas is a pagan holiday and it proves no spirit with the almighty jehovah and his son, the christ.

I made a Sparlock tree topper out of a Jerry Garcia doll last year. He isn't on top of the tree this year because he is too heavy, so he is sitting underneath.

We celebrated our first Christmas as a family last year. I went a little nuts with the gifts and such, but that's OK. I went a little less nuts this year. I enjoy some of the Christmas activities, but for us it's a totally secular event. We have a tree that's visible through the living room windows, and we put a wreath and lights up outside. I know without a doubt that the local dubs have seen it, and I don't care one bit. They haven't bothered to confront us, which saves me the effort of telling them to sod off.

Have you put on the "New Personality" ?
by Phizzy inwhen we were in we were often read that scripture and told we should work hard at putting on the new personality, which in wt speak meant their cult personality, nothing like the person of christ.. since leaving it has become necessary for us to make deep internal changes, to our worldview, to our emotions, and to our actions.. we have had to change from being controlled in all these areas by the wt cult, to forming our own new personality.. for born-ins like me this is really quite a task, we do not have a "pre-cult" personality to "recover".
but even for converts, there is stilll this work to do, before you joined you may have been racist, homophobic, or perhaps a thief, or immoral in some other way, surely you do not wish to "recover" those aspects of your original personality ?so you too have to "put on" a new one.. how are we all doing with this ?
i know that for me i feel it is still a work in progress, i need to work on certain things that are the result of my being in the jw/wt scam for all those decades, and some things that are a part of my natural personality which are not desireable as traits, laziness for example, and i am the arch-procrastinator, not good.. how do you guys feel you are doing since leaving ?.

My natural personality is cynical, sarcastic, and very very bawdy. I swear like a sailor, and I'm a rather lazy slob. I tried for over a decade to "put on the new personality" and it was a miserable failure. Nothing about me actually changed - I just censored everything I said and felt completely isolated and fake. I don't think I'm a particularly "good" or "bad" person, just average overall - and that's OK with me. I don't feel the need to "work" on my personality anymore, nor do I believe it's even possible to change one's basic nature.

Ladies, How Big Is Your Diamond Engagement Ring?
by minimus ini notice a trend that suggests that many ladies either have a one carat or bigger diamond ring or much smaller if any.. do you have a diamond ring and if you do, what size carat is it?
?.

I said yes to Just Ron when he presented me with a 25 cent ring from a vending machine. I still have it. Our wedding rings were plain gold bands from a jewelry store's going out of business sale. I would be absolutely terrified to walk around wearing a ring worth 2 month's salary. I haven't worn my wedding ring in over 20 years, I'm just not a jewelry person.
